gear box oil

I am in the concrete pumping industry and looking to change the oil in the gear box on 3 of our machines.The manufacturer is telling us to use an ISO VG 150 synthetic oil.The gearbox contains a bronze shift fork so I am not quite sure what to use.We have a local supplier who has Shell Omala HD 150 and I am wondering if this will be suitable for our application.I have also looked in to Lubriplates syntec gear oil although it is a little more pricey than the Omala.Any suggestions will be helpful.We are located in the New Orleans area which means high heat and humidity.

I believe Shell Omala HD is a synthetic PAO ISO VG 150 industrial gear. I'd suggest you contact Shell to confirm. If humidity and moisture is an issue - perhaps using desiccant breathers on these gear boxes will help reduce moisture ingression. With the type of EP additives used in industrial gear oils nowadays, it usually is not a problem with yellow metal components.

Dear Thomas Cook,

Many of the older Gear oils were LS (Lead Sulphur) additivated and are largely not in supply today, these affected the silver, copper bronze bearings.

A Group 3 or 4 Base oil type synthetic gear oils supplied by major Oil companies should be the answer.

Hello it is the first time that I inform. I wait that me understand. I think that looking for to search oil´s PAO or PAG´S and low sulfur. For hard works they work better. I recomended my custumer CASTROL OPTIFLEX 150 or OPTIGEAR SINTETIC A150 for hard operations.
