Hot Oil Capacity to Top-Up

Please kindly help me solve the top-up amount of my Hot Oil system which has a total circulation of 16,000 litres and the capacity of expansion tank is 4,700 litres.

I would like to know how much level that I should maintain at the expansion tank at Hot&Cold temperature, so that we can decide how much to top-up the oil.

Is it ok to maintain 1/3 of the expansion tank at cold temperature and 2/3 at hot temperature?

Please kindly advise on any idea, I will be so much appreciated.

Tank capacity should be twice the calculated expansion volume. That is the tank will be 25% full when the oil in the system is cold, 75% when the oil is hot.The temperature in the oil tank should be no more than 130f/54c if it is vented to the atmosphere.

Thank you so much for your generous response, Eric.

So, you recommended 1/4 when the oil is cold and 3/4 when it is hot right?

And if the oil is hotter in atmosphere-vented than you mentioned, it will be proned and likely to cause more oxidation right?

And please be so kind to explain more about the twice calculated expansion volume? I'm not sure I can understand it so well, because I've never been in this field before.
