Hello guys.

I have been wondering to myself this question.

Is there any established time, 2000, 3000, 5000 hours or more for any brand hydraulic fluid? i mean, we can extend in many cases the remainung life trough a bunch or techniques,( filtration, heat control, contaminants control etc. etc.) but against wich value we can compare the fruit of our job? "We have increased in 158% the life of your hydraulic fluid" We have, ALWAYS, to establish a baseline to say something like that? or can weuse an "accepted by consensus" number of working hours?.

Thanks in advance for your comments.

I've mainly seen fluid extension on mobile plant equipment hydraulic system - premdominantly with very large reservoirs. This is done in conjunction with oil analysis (every 500hrs or so), filtration both on board and off board such as kidney loop. Filtration on storage tanks and clean oil supply via the oil supplier. Take into consideration top up rates.

The pay back is the number of oil changes and the volume of oil changes. Also waste oil disposable costs, labour cost and availability of equipment.
Leaky or tight system, premium or budget lubricant?
Mobile hydraulics or static.
Mobile systems usually have limited sump capacity wheras bespoke static hydraulics are not so limited.
Enough variables, temperature, contamination, cleanliness?
Some systems never have to change - high top with good cleanliness others need regular changing.
Regular oil analysis from a good source is the only answer to achieve optimum performance.
Hello Ariel,

Lifetime extension beyond the oil change interval of the OEM should always be based on oil analyses. An "accepted by consensus" number of working hours is not accepted because you do not know what happens in the time between.

If the hydraulic oil is treated well it can go over 10.000 hrs easily... but that means no water, no particles so no chemical attack of the oil.
Also the air breather of the system needs special attention because what is not coming in you do not have to take out.

If you use an radial microfilter with a high filter efficiency it will do the job.
But still you have to analyse the oil each time when you extend the prescripted interval by the OEM.

Good luck
