Our use of linear bearing is to provide accurate horizontal motion of a heavy machine transport. Speed is quite slow, but can be increased via proportional hydraulic va**es.Even so, the speed is quite slow. We presently use Trabon centrla lube system, with an EP grease. The surroundings is not agressive in nature, but contamination is present via dirt, and metal cuttings. It is open looped. Is this the right grease to use?

I use a series progressive (Trabon style) in many of the lubrication systems I install in industrial applications. Grease may not be the lubricant of choice in this application. Grease tends to attract and hold any kind of contaminants and can actually create a grinding compound. If you switched to an oil instead of the grease, you may use slightly more, but it also tends to flush the contaminants away from the bearing / sliding surfaces. You won't have to change the lube system you have in place as it will work with oil. There may have to be slight modifications made in order to work with oil, such as the pump reservoir changed. That may be a simple and cheap fix depending on what your pump looks like.
