We have an Induced Draft Fan that we are storing in the boneyard as a spare until needed. This could be a matter of years before it will see use. Would the best practice for keeping the bearings in good shape be to pack the housings completely full of grease, and then re-pack when the fan is put into use?

A major cause of degredation in stored equipment is neglect. What ever your plan for filling the bearing housings youashould also plan to rotate the shafts of all stored equipment on a monthly basis which will redistribute the grease in the bearings and prevent the shaft fromm sitting for long periods in one position which can lead to bowed shafts, partially rusted componants and false brinelling in the bearing races. If you plan on keeping equipment in the "boneyard" for future use it will pay big dividends to include that equipment on your PM routes for a little attention.
