To All;
Thanks for past assistance. Is there a rule of thumb as to the amount of grease is needed of a vertically oriented shaft bearing versus a horizontal shaft bearing. My contention is the vertical shaft will require more due gravity and seal issues. Also, how much grease should be added initially to the housing of a vertically mounted shaft bearing housing?

You also have to take into consideration the speed of the shaft as running a grease that is too thick can create problems with heat.

Most of the issues can be addressed with an automated system to dispense what you need, when you need it without the potential issues of a thick grease. This also prevents excess grease having to be applied to maintain enough in the bearing between lubrication cycles.
