I am going to round the numbers off but this oil is crazy well built and it's not their top of the line stuff . There another , the Ultra thats a step above it . An internet friend TaulPaul oughta just love the thought of making a brew with some of this motorcycle oil.

This exact formula is offered in a 17.5 cSt 15w-50 and the HT/HS was drum roll ...... 5.5 !

Just thought a few here might be interested in seeing how this oil was built . Sorry , out of respect for the company I will not list the base oils . No group III though Wink

This oil can be has for a little over 6 buck per liter when purchased through a Parts Unlimited dealer .

Motorbike, I talked to them today and found out just how muh more they put into their Ultra series oil. I know that I've been asking about different oils on this forum, but I think that I've found a winner for the winter in my vehicle, maybe even a keeper for year 'round use.

You're not kidding when you say that their product is "crazy well built". I also can get it local for $11 liter. I know, very high end in price, but after talking for 30 minutes about the additive package, bases, detergents, and such, I think that this might be the first oil that I will let in my crankcase for 10K miles, or 6 months, whichever comes first. I've NEVER said that about ANY other oil that I've used in the past.

I also would like to hear from TallPaul to see what concoction he could conjure up with it as well!!
No moly, because these are (ester synthetic) motorcycle specific oils (JASO MA), that can be used in bikes with wet clutches (moly will make the clutch slip).

The new generation of Honda and some Suzuki high performance dirt bike/quad engines (CRF450R/X, TRX450R, CRF250R/X, etc.), are now separating the engine and transmission oils (God Bless Honda!). In these, you have the advantage of being able to run a JASO MB oil in the engine, and a transmission specific lube in the trans (or a JASO MA oil).

If you were to go to the topic header you will see the topic oil is Maxima Maxum 4 Synthetic Extra which is not a synthetic blend . Then , upon a " thorough " read of the link you posted you will find this topic oil was not tested along with the Amsoil synthetic . They chose to test the Maxim 4 Synthetic blend ... for whatever reason and even then did not test or omitted testing of the 20w-50 Maxim 4 synthetic blend .

The Maxima Maxum 4 Extra 10w-40 is a 12.5 - 13.0 centistroke oil made of pao and ester and has an HT/HS of 4.7 ! Noack is undoubtably low also as would be for the 17 cSt Maxima Maxum 4 Extra 15w-50 with a HT/HS of over 5.5 .

As good as these primarily pao with ester oils are they offer two other bike oils on even a higher tier . They are called Maxima Ultra and come in a 5w-40 and 5w-50 for the bikes and are primary ester base oil formulas .

According to Maxima, Extra and Ultra have identical formulations, with the exception that Ultra has one additional ester that makes it extremely slick. "This ester does something very special on the surface of the metal"....that's all the additional info they were willing to offer.

In addition, Ultra is offered in some rather unconventional weights.

I run Extra in all my bikes with integrated transmissions, and the transmission of my 450R. In the 450R engine side, I run Ultra.
Since I do have the Ultra in my vehicle right now, if you guys can give me some time to accumulate the mileage for a reasonable UOA of this stuff, I'll post it at that other site as well, since I posted the VOA of it.

Right now, I've got close to 4K miles on it, and was planning on doing the OCI interval at 7K, so I'm over half way there. I feel compelled to say though, unless this stuff comes through with flying colors on the UOA (meaning I could go 15K miles or better), then this stuff probably isn't worth the price of admission ($11 per liter).

Only time will tell now...
Where and why are you paying $11 for Ultra?

It was through a local bike shop. They had to get it in from their warehouse, so it was the retail price of $10.99 per liter.

Thank you so much for the link to this place. I just might keep using this stuff now at that price, as I really didn't want to go back to anything else after dissecting this oil through the VOA. It's built like a tank, and runs "Ultra" smooth in my Honda CR-V. Don't worry, no oil consumption problems for the cat issue with all of the additive package strength.
I guess that I just floor you then when I say that the Honda CR-V is their SUV vehicle. Yep, I run this in a car.

I do this for two reasons: one, because it is a 0w30 (bordering a 0w20) synthetic based oil, and two, after first reading this post, then conversing with Maxima tech guy personally, and finally getting educated opinions from forums such as this, I said d-a-m-n the torpedoes, full speed ahead and decided to give it a shot.

Now that I realize that I paid almost as much for the first OC with it than I could've for a whole case, I feel really stupid that I didn't shop around online as opposed to just searching for dealers in my neck of the woods.

I really do think that I just might stick with this stuff, but will do the UOA to be on the safe side before running any seriously long OCI's (meaning 10K miles or longer).
I'm not too worried about it, not because I don't care, but because this engine hasn't used a drop of oil since brand new, so the consumption issue that pertains to the cat life is not a concern.

I've even tried 2-cycle lube in the fuel tank for the mileage increase/top end lube issue with today's drier gasoline. No funny smells or smoke, even at an ounce/gallon ratio. Due to winter setting in though (meaning excessive idling, warm up time and crappy gasoline to begin with), I've since put that on hold until spring arrives again.

My inspection is in February, so I'll know pretty fast if anything is up with the emissions systems due to the 2-cycle oil and the lubricant in the crankcase.
The real bargain for the Ultra is the 20 quart pale for 126.00 .

If I can make a suggestion that would be not to waste the money for a test kit this first interval and do a running sample next go around at 6 months , depending on vehicle usage . You will gain nothing from the first test results .

Just one more is not to burn oil "mix" in your gas , with the antimony you really don't need additional upper cylinder " ring lube " protection or the additional combustion chamber deposits if used long term . IMO Smile

Thanks for the VOA info.
But, even more thanks for the links. At ~$8 a quart now, I'll have to try both the Ultra and the Extra either full strength, or I just might use it as an 'additive' to my Mobil-1, Pennzoil Platinum, Castrol Syntec, or RotellaT synthetics which really can't be beat when costing ~<$4 a quart(sales/clearance/rebates/coupons).
Currently I'm using Redline oil(advancedauto clearanced) @ 20% treat rate as an oil additive.
I always thought De**ac 1 was the ultimate oil- I'd heard of truckers going 100k miles between changes.

Buster ,the Extra is primarily PAO with ester , Ultra is ester with pao .
