Read our primer articles on Oil Analysis and Tribology

I am women who knows nothing about cars and I think that I am going to put to the test. I am hoping that someone can help me. My daughter took her car to a car dealership and they changed her oil. She drove the car for about 3 hours straight shot to her destination and even made it home another 3 hours. She got into the car the next day, started to drive and the car was sounding bad and over heating. She took the car back to the dealership who changed her oil and they did admit to not tighting something. I think they said the oil pan. The car was bone dry. They said that if anything goes wrong with the car that they would take care of it. Well, the car sat for about 5 days before it was drivin again. She drove the car and was stuck out in the country but with no other alternative to drive the car. The car was over heating again and sputtering. She made it some where and there was oil all over the engine. She said that it looked like a milk shake. I am assuming that it was now mixed with engine coolant. The engine did not seize it was able to start the next day.

The car is back at the dealership and they informed me that it was not their fault that there was a hole in the intake valve. Well, it's still under investigation. There was nothign wrong with the engine before we took it in. Now it's all messed up.

Any suggestions so this women does not get taken in a man's world.
I really would apreciate some advice. They will get back with us Monday to let us know what they think.

Another competent mechanic and a lawyer. The other mechanic can look at the problem objectively and may be able to determine if the problems you are now having may have been caused by the previous work. If you have a provable case then the lawyer can help recover damages from the original shop. This could be a dificult case especially if they have had some time with the car to cover their tracks.
