Am interested to know what are the maximum moisture limits for synthetic oil in Centrifugal chillers. The guideline is 50 ppm.

We have operated chillers with moiture upto 180 ppm, replaced the drier cores and got it down to 100 ppm. Is that OK. Does the oil composition charge immediately on absorbing moisture?

Can synthetic oil be recycled to remove moisture in case it goes to levels of 400 pm

The moisture limits are not just dependent on the oil type. The refrigerant type and evaporator temperature will also impact the limits.

Moisture will degrade the lubricant and system components at a relatively slow rate. The combination of time, elevated temperature and elevated moisture levels are key. The presence of other contaminates can accelerate the impact of moisture.

The lubricant may be able to be recycled or may need to be replaced. The amount of degradation of the lubricant will determine the ability to be reused.
