Hello my friends,
I still have doubts about the graphite. Some customers have the idea of a graphite erodes the metal. I tell them that graphite has MOHS hardness scale as 1 in the powder. Even the MoS2 is 4 points lower than the graphite hardness. What's true in this matter? Is there a study? I go to that study to show that graphite does not erode?
Thank you very much for your interest and kind regards.

Hello Juanan,
Yes graphite is abrasive, however it is less damaging than no lubrication. Generally natural graphite is less abrasive than manufactured graphite espically in the smaller sizes <30 microns. It's all about balancing the application. If you need a solid lubricant because of loss of lubricant film then the graphite will be better than no lubricant to protect the surfaces but it is a trade off. There are mechanical means to increase the fluid flow and maintain the lubricant film but you have to match the system to the application. There are scales avaliable that show the abrasivity index of various materials and graphite is definatly more abrasive than Moly, but this still needs to be considered as a part of the total lubrication requirements.
Tank you Alan for you reply. I am very grateful for your interest in my question. clear my doubts and my questions are answered. Now I understand several points. The erosion is caused by lack of fat or lack of concentration of graphite and MoS.
I think in this case the fear of my client ARITEMA-mining machinery manufacturing engineering, was for his use of a grease for years of low quality.
Stay in their attention to any topic you need.
