Looks like a very unrealistic advert for an engine oil, havent seen many engines driving around with blowtorches on it melting the seals and hoses!!!!!!!!!!! Also who cares if it runs with all wheels off the ground at no load for 72 hours!!!!!
Try putting it into a heavily loaded working vehicle rather than a motor sitting on a chain or a vehicle up on stands.

You're exactly right.
I'm sure you know as well as I that Castrol Syntec is a superb synthetic motor oil, so I'm sure Castrol wouldn't dare release a new formula that didn't completely surpass their old Syntec formula.
It's only in Australia right now. But I haven't actually looked for it in the states yet. It may be available by now.

It's certainly not available in only Australia.
EDGE is implemented for about 2-3 years already in Europe, replacing some of the existing products in the Retail range of Castrol.
EDGE is part of the new PBA portfolio, which should give a more uniform productportfolio globally.

You're right. I found one bottle on eBay, and it was located in Europe.

Yes, some of them when I made the recommendation tables for the European countries.
They are good quality oils comparable with the SLX Professional line for Workshops.

Castrol's perform on top of many classifications and parameters,as do many other brands,but have you ever seen comparisons by actual ASTM Tests of theirs OR ANY OTHER lubes anywhere???Amsoil does all of them, for all parameters. Check them (www.lubedealer.com/mrfilter) out if you want answers.

Sure, these results can be found in their MSDS/PDS section. ASTM results per product. You only have to compare it yourself with equivalent competitor products, which should be easy as many also show their values.
Well, good points, but everybody probably knows the ways marketing works in the oil business. It doesn't matter if it's BP/Castrol or any other company, each one does play with their approvals and marketing strategies. There are so many products out there which claim to 'meet' an approval but don't actually have them.
But when in doubt, you can try and ask for a technical report on these test mentioned in the leaflet. You can also look up the MSDS of the Edge products and compare the testvalues with conventional products, this also should give more insight than the test mentioned in the leaflet.

Did anyone see the blurb about controlled phosphorus for the Edge 5w-30 and TBN of 6 ? I think it's a A3/B3/B4 LL98 engine oil . I don't know of any other specs it does/does not meet.
The 0w-40 has a little higher tbn in the 7's but different base oil than the one it replaced . Both these Edge's are using salicylates but i can't tell to what degree .

On the labels of the 5w-30 - 10w-30 here in the USA it says the oil meets API SM , GM4178 along with others and also says it is guaranteed to go an extended drain interval of 15000 miles or 1 year - which ever comes first .

Both 5w-30 and 10w-30 meet GF-4 and both are ACEA A5/B5 oils .
The 5w-30 is

9.8 @ 100c

BP/Castrol ran the ASTM Seq IVA test on Royal Purple, Valvoline, Mobil 1 and others and found Edge trumped M1 by 8x on this test.
As I said on Bob's, it's the additives that really make the difference and I think Castrol/Valvoline/Amsoil all have the edge in that area. All 3 seem to use Lubrizol too. FWIW.

I don't personally like Castrol products but the new Edge oils look good. I'm guessing they are a Group III/IV/V blend.
It appears Ashland & BP are using this new low volatile ZDP. They are touting the p retention test. I wonder if this plays a role in the Seq IVA results? Notice the last 25 hrs of the test.

You're damn wrong! This one is no more than perfectly refined petroleum oil! Process is called hydrocracking and definitely is not creation of “man made oil” what synthetic oil is supposed to be. Actually, by practice of cheating customers Castrol introduced that "synthetic" can be marketed as "synthetic" even if it is not a "synthetic"!

You're damn wrong! This one is no more than perfectly refined petroleum oil! Process is called hydrocracking and definitely is not creation of “man made oil” what synthetic oil is supposed to be. Actually, by practice of cheating customers Castrol introduced that "synthetic" can be marketed as "synthetic" even if it is not a "synthetic"!

I agree, we don't need to discuss it but guys who do not know facts should be warned. Especially those who live @ this side of pond since (it seems that) European and North American Syntec and are different.
