I'm asking this question to all members:

Is it the high content of phosphorus and zinc in diesel oils that can harm catalytic converters in gasoline powered cars? The reason why I ask is I would like to use Chevron Delo 400 10W30 in my car, but all my research on the Web has somewhat indicated to me, that this would be a costly mistake. Is this true?

Is there a possibility that you're taking a risk to come out ahead even if you lose the catalytic converter after using the Chevron Delo? If your car is worth keeping why not use the best product option available?

Part of the answer depends on whether your car consumes much oil. If it consumes a lot of oil, then I would see the zinc/phosphorus getting to the cat, but if it consumes little or no oil, then how would much zinc/phosphorus get to the cat?

Hi Guys,

I went ahead and picked up a 5 quart jug of regular Chevron Supreme 10W30 at Kragen's tonight. Didn't want to chance it with the Delo. I think if I had one of those diesel pick-ups, I'd use it though.

I would not worry about it, and actually prefer the heavier additive treatment. Have used Delo in gasoline engines a lot.

As said above, it the engine is consuming a lot of oil, there might be a risk, otherwise, none.
