Dear All,

I have recently seen a pinion and girth gear of a cement ball mill. The pinion bearing on running in side shows high level of vibration on horizontal axis. It is also observed that pinion has undergone some wear? What factors of the girth gear and pinion should I check ? I am using a very high viscosity lubricant nearly 13,000 cst at 40 degree.

The tooth flank surfaces might have lost the initial hardened layer and the metal surfaces became softer and are wearing faster. Look at marks of progressive wear such as scratches or pitting.
Corrective action: Nanocoat them, apply a new protective layer such as the Rewitec www.rewitec.us to stop that wear process.
Best practice: Document the condition for future controls and to understand how it evolves.
