We want to use Polyurea grease for continous cater in steel plant. Present lubricant is a lithium base grease. The grease will be pump by cetralized lubrication system. Do we need to flushing or cleaning the bearings before using a polyurea grease or not?
Also what will be the advantage if we switch from a lithium base grease to plyurea grease?
If you are having any case study or experience please let me know.

Many of the newer shear stable polyurea greases are compatible with lithium thickeners. It is also called di-urea thickener. I have checked with my lubricant vendor and the lithium/di-urea thickened greases we are using from him are compatible as long as the lubricating oils are compatible. If this is a traditional polyurea, I would flush the length of the central lubrication system and clean/repack any critical bearings.

I have had horrible results from mixing older polyurea grease with lithium thickened greases where the bearings seized within a day of greasing.

More recently, I have found bearings that had polyurea thickened greases mixed with lithium thickened grease with no apparent problem. The unit was disassembled for reasons not related to bearings.

Dear Pandey,

We ahev a recent example in India (TATA steel) who changed from a Lithium Complex to Polyurea (Matrix Grease Poly HT plus 2) without any problems. The grease solved a lot of issues including bearing failure, fires (due to the lower flash point of the Li complex grease) and centrale system pumping issues. Currently availabel Urea thickeners generally do not cause problems when changed from Li Complex. I can provide you with more details on the grease if you like. www.lubes-portal.com
