This is my first post on this site, to add to this thread I had purchased some prolong years ago and followed the directions and it lasted me 4 days before I wiped out a roller lifter and cam in a 428 cobra jet that I owned, it happened while idling in traffic.
ruined my day to say the least, was it the oil? who knows? the lifter failed then took out the cam lobe.
I did not agree with the advertisment at the time and what had happened in my case.
additives are better left on the shelf.
just purchase quality oil

And we are suppose to feel safe about having HCL in the engine? At what "high-temperature" will the HCL form?

The additive is almost as expensive if not more than what a regular oil change would cost. $15 for quality oil, $5 for filter. Then you put another $20 in there for Prolong? That doesn't make any sense cost-wise as Prolong does not extend the drain intervals or anything.

A better oil, filter, or even a bypass filtration (if your on diesel or turboed) is a much better choice than trying to make your own blend with Prolong which will result in conflicting Chemistry between the different base stock oils.
