Sample Seal Oil?

OK, here's a real basic question. How much worth is there in sampling oil from a pump seal oil pot? Like I said - real basic. Thanks!

erwind94, the only reason I would perform this task is if you have a problematic sample. This is a great question and not from what I feel that basic. If you have a problem with your main lube oil sample having other sample locations like seal oil would help identify and stream line your troubleshooting.

Jeff, Thanks for the reply. I have a couple systems like what you described - a main reservoir that feeds other seal pots, and that is how I'm taking the samples now. I wasn't clear in my question though. We have a number of pumps with individual/stand-alone seal pots. Is there value in sampling oil out of these? Thanks again! Dan
