sampling procedure

some analyst takes 1gm sample for TAN analysis, some are uses 5gm sample, i have taken all the sample variation and found that result are not consistent provided these sample are only for gas engine.was there any recommeneded sampling procedure for TAN analysis?

Hi Alam, I'm inclined to treat TAN or AN as a trend line and test the new lubricant then resample monthly and what you are checking for is an elevation over time of the TAN line, all samples should go through the same lab so the same procedure is used and the new oil is the start point. if you have not tested the new oil for TAN you can't really evaluate off the used oil tests as we don't know the start point, regards

from your observation, what is your repeatability value of your test?
