As you all probably know, the new low SAPS (Sulphated Ash Phosforous Sulfur, I'm not sure I spelled it correct...) specifications of ACEA will be implemented:

ACEA C1-03
ACEA C2-04
ACEA C3-04

What's you opinion on these constant changing requirements? Doesn't it drive you crazy???

Are there also US specs which describe the new low SAPS requirements? Please share! Thanks in advance!

I doubt if C1 oils will be really available on the market. HTHS of 2,6....

The US have their own Mid-SAPS oil Specification, named ILSAC GF-4. It will improve the oil quality a lot. Unfortunatelly the chemical limits between US and European ACEA oils are different.

jep, the 2.6 is perhaps low, but this number is not fixed yet (tentative, according to my ACEA documentation that is, could be changed again...).

I have similar information. Still I doubt if the HTHS of 2,6 will be really available on the market for normal customers, if the C1 Spec becomes valid. There is no real big demand for C1 on the market.

No, not at the moment, but unfortunately this sometimes can change overnight. I guess they had to upgrade the spec in order to make the C2 and C3 sensible

There is only one, maybe two European OEM calling for C1. That's not much of a market share.

We can do a bet. In about 4-5 years we will see who has won...

I know, MB229.31 is a C1-like specification for passenger cars. Don't know if it's going to be MB228.31 or MB228.51 for commercial vehicles, I've seen both being used in articles.

But the bet is on, let's see what happens the following years! Just out of curiosity: what is your job occupation?
