I'm interested if anyone has had any experience with Atlas Copco G200 screw compressors having a varnish problem. We are using the OEM Roto-extend oil that A/C claims would not produce any varnish deposits. I grabbed a sample and didn't find any evidence of any varnish precursors. We had an Atlas compressor at another plant catch fire and the cause is being attributed to a flash over fire in the unloader valve area due to varnish buildup. They related it to a chimney fire due to cresote buildup. I didn't think these machines ran that hot. Any input would be appreciated.

rgf12, anyone who states that their product wont varnish is "chasing the dragon" with todays type fluids its not if, its when. I live a little north of Charlotte and am often in South Carolina. I would be happy to perform some on site testing for varnish and additive levels within your used fluid. Please feel free to contact me via email @ j.chapin@fluitec.com or by phone @ 315-447-3780. We have a lot of case studies with air/gas compressors.
You can contact also the Kluber staff in your area.
They have extensive knowlege about compressor lubrication, a wide range of compressor oil (Kluber Summit range) and also compressor detergent that removes varnish deposits (Kluber Summit Varnasolv).
But most important, they can help you analyse and eliminate the root causes of this deposits professionaly.
Success!
