Read our primer articles on High Mileage Oil, Synthetic Oil and Kinematic Viscosity

Hello There,

It's me again from Indonesia. I have a case to share with you guys, the experts.

My friend have 2 petrol fueled toyota cars. He used a Diesel Engine Oil (SAE 15W-40, CH-4/SL) Group III based.

When it's time to change the oil (it's the third time of oilchange using the same oil), just last week (about 8000 Km) .. we discover many gelly sludge perform in gasket and rocker arms.

The service station mechanic claims, those sludge is formed because of using diesel engine oil on petrol engine... and to me it's bulls***.

I learned that diesel engine oil have better cleaning "power" than gasoline engine oil. So there must be another reason for this problems occured.

Big thanx for you guys attentions and reply

Thanx for the replies,

Unfortunately i can't do oil analysis because when i came, the oil has been replace. I just see the gasket (because they change it), there i found residue like jelly or gel. The oilman say, there is much more of these jelly like in the rocker arm. I ask the driver of the car, the symptoms is loss power and increased smoke in exhaust.

There is another 4 car with same type (toyota) and using the same oil. It's diesel engine oil SAE 15W-40, API CH-4/SJ with Group III Base oil. Drain interval in about 8000 km.

I'll check another 4 car. I think those jelly like residue is because oxidation right? Could it happen because of coolant contamination that deteriorate the oil?

Thanx
