Read our primer articles on Grease Guns and Oil Sight Glasses.

My machine manufacturer has specified Mobil SHC639 for a preoiler, it appears to only be available in 55 gal drums. Not gonna happen. I am leery of using off brand items for fear of incompatability or warranty issues. Are there any distributors who would break this product down into smaller quantities, a quart is going to last years, but there are a bunch of these machines that need maintenance

Hi Gus,
The problem with getting this type of product in small packaging sizes is that they are fairly specialised and so arn't normally considered for the non-bulk type market. As David mentioned there are other marketers that you could approach. I would be reluctant to use the Royal Purpal product as a direct replacement for the Mobil SHC 639...because the Mobil is a non EP fortified product and from what I just read about the Thermyl Glyde product is appears to be designed for SEVERE duty, this translates (to me) to be heavily EP fortified. So it isn't a direct replacement.
I wouldn't give up on the Mobil product and getting it in a smaller (more usable size) I've run up against some Mobil people who are more than willing to help out for future considerations.....

Gus,

The answer to your predicament is selling skills and networking. I spent 18 years in Castrol Industrial sales in India and came across similiar problems. Till date I fail to understand why OEM's are not proactive. Frankly speaking you should go to your OEM and demand they organize this oil and quantity required.

In reality, if I were you, I would write to the top Exxon-Mobil guy (CEO, Sales Director) and sing thier companies praise and request them to give you a small 5 litre sample of the product.

Networking is the other solution. Locate other users of this product in your area and ask them for a "loan" of 5 Lt or supply at cost 5lt. Please also remember to offer them something in return.

Bingo, by the end of the week your problem is solved.

Gus,
As to your warranty concerns generally manufacturers cannot base warrenty considerations on a particular brand of lubricant unless it offers specific properties that are unavailable from other suppliers. I am sure you can locate an ISO VG 1000 PAO that would be a suitable replacement without causing any warranty problems.
Hussam I believe has a great idea of looking for someone who will give or swap you some since your needs are small.
Gus,
What is you location, I have Spartan Synthetic ISO 1000 EP fortified oil avaliable, that we could trade for something. This is a very similar product to the Mobil SHC 639 EXCEPT it does contain a medium amount of EP additaves. Check with the OEM supplier and get the full specification requirements.

I am NOT a vendor, I do not sell any products.
