can anyone help me?

i have a Shell Turbo DR46 (synthetic phosphate esther.

with the latest analysis we had a tan value of 0,77, a water content of 480PPM and an iso clas of 14/11

we use a bypass dewatering filter, and have 4 hilco fuller earth filterelements, buth the don't bring the acidity down

is the acidity tan value beyond the point of no return? or can we still bring the acidity down

Pascal - the first thing I'd do is re-test the acid number. If confirmed to be beyond the used oil limits, the oil is likely finished. Check with the fluid supplier to determine what those limits are. You may be able to get by with a "bleed & feed" to get you to your next scheduled outage, but that's just a stopgap. Increased acidity indicates oxidation and there is nothing to can do to unring that bell.

The acidic degradation components are still soluble in the fluid, so you won't be able to filter them out. Excess water may induce oxidation or other forms of degradation and it's a good idea to keep the water out. But once again, if the water has already caused a problem, removing it is just a case of closing the barn door after the horses have already run off.

What is you typical water level? 480 ppm doesn't sound all that high for a hygroscopic material like a phosphate ester. They will suck water right out of the air.
