Has anyone had any experiences with cleaning a thermal oil system, in particular the pipework.

I know there are chemical washes that are available to put through systems to remove excessive buildup of coking or carbon residue but how successful are these and is there a better way of cleaning a system out?

Any thoughts are appreciated.

Thermal oil is a specialist area.(not mine)
Aware of products that help to get rid of deposits. These were based on engine oil additives(detergent and dispersant additives)
Should be used only as a prolonged flush at lower temperatures and then fully removed.
Regular oil analysis including carbon build up will help to assess the oil condition and hopefully avoid carbon residue deposits in the system(by timely oil changes)
