Hello all,
I was wondering if anyone has any experience with TAN in sythetic gear oils?
We have a Falk gear reducer that is running Chevron Tegra synthetic gear oil
ISO 320.This gear box runs about 200 deg. F on the input shaft.The viscosity
is still ok but the TAN is at 1.07 the past 2 months.The baseline sample for
new oil week took came back with a TAN of .39,is this telling us to change
the oil or not?Thank you , Rob Gunderson

Dear Rob,

An oil change would be highly recommended..
u can go for a ftir test probably which will give you how much the oil is being detoriated...
