Does anyone know if Valvoline Maxlife Synthetic is a true synthetic? Also would it be better than Mobil 1 in a car that has over 100,000 miles?

Robert, The word synthetic means it has been modified. Nobody tells you what has been modified or how it has been modified. We put faith in the oil companies that they have our best interests at heart.

Regardless of how you wish to apply "definitions", the reality is that a crude oil melecule is chemically "cracked" into smaller sections, extraneous segments are added or exchanged and the molecular chain is then strung back together (laymans speach). The basic end result is an improved but inherently similar to the original chain. I personally call that modified, but is also technically synthesised.
