Read our primer articles on Grease Guns and Oil Sight Glasses.

The headline might be a bit confusing, but here is the story.
We have an new compressor with non-lubricated bearing. The bearing have a PTFE-containing rider ring which should take care of the "lubricating" until the airflow is big enough to lift the bearing.
After a few runs it was noticed that the bearings already had wear and it looked like the temperature had been very high, so obvious something is not working properly.
During the investigation I discovered that the bearing and ring rider actually had been lubricated with a spray containing solvent, mineral oil, PTFE and some anticorrosion-additives before the first run. I assume this primarily has been done to avoid corrosion during transportation and storage.
But my question is now if this lubrication has have any influence on our wear and temperature problems. I have never heard of anyone using PTFE-containing lubricants on non-lubricated rider rings. Does anyone have experience with that? Could the added lubrication somehow prevent the "natural" lubrication of the PTFE-containing rider ring to work properly?
