During a recent turbine exchange, we changed from Chevron GST 32 to Mobil DTE Light and the varnish layer in our system piping and oil cooler has turned to a soft gel. Some background: We have had years of varnish build up throughout our system. The only equipment that was chemically cleaned during the downtime during oil change was the lube oil cooler.
Upon startup, the warm DTE light somehow transformed years and years of varnish build-up to a soft get that is easily wiped clean and easily filtered. So much of this gel appeared that it plugged our lube oil filters frequently, so we shut down and did a hot oil flush through a filtration skid.
Has anyone seen this happen in their GT’s?
Thanks,
Mike
