VW 504.00 and 507.00 (low SAPS)

I found this at the Motul site plus Castrol just released info on a partnership with BMW about these new low phos oils described as clean technology . Looks like new 0w-40's will beome the norm for BMW . Not sure about the VW/Audi group but think probably 0w-30 there unless severe service indicates the need for 40wt.

Sorry I could be of no more help but these are new oils and specs . As time goes by more info will be found . It's all about emmissions though it certainly appears .

All I could find on the internet at this time are press releases on new products and general explanations on the meaning of VAPS. I'm more interested in the way if these specification are retrospective for current 503's and 506's.

Shell developed with VW a new engine test for these new Specs. This test is especially interesting for me. It allows only 50% of ash build up in the DPF within a certain time in reference to a "standard SAPS" oil.

The mentioned Aral and Castrol oils are identical. Both brands are owned by Burmah.

Correct. This is the new SLX LL04 for the new Longlife 04 specification of BMW. There are several companies with an approval, some 0W-40, others 5W-30's. Here is an article on this product.

Did you hear also that the 504/507 products are retrospective to all other VAG specs?

This is not finally decided, as far as I know. But the BMW spec is said to be backwards compatible.
