If i us water Glycol for a hydraulic application, what type of metal reservoir can i use to avoid contamination due to reaction. Is it okay to use carbon steel?

Kid, I don't know about any reaction other that rust as a large part of the medium is water. We use SS for all our permanent hydraulic systems. We do have some portable tanks for refill use that are carbon. I think you get more heat dissipation with SS anyway so thats another incentive to use the SS. T.Wilson
Thanks Tom. By the way what is most critical thing to consider when using a water glycol application. How often do you check your fluid (acidity, water-glycol ratio, etc)
Kid,we take samples monthly and have the WG checked,water content,particulates,etc. All of our pumps are derated to 1200 RPM instead of the normal 1800. If I was designing a new sytem I would oversize the suction lines and try to size my cylinders and/motors for a medium pressure application-somewhere around 1200-1600 PSI. I am in a steel mill environment. There are other people-esp. mobile applications that do a better job than we do but we are improving as we go along. T wilsn
