Read our primer articles on Oil Analysis and Tribology

On the management level, if we are calling a particular oil sample (viscosity/water ingress) a PdM activity, when we get feedback from the labs on our oil sample and perhaps we are advised to change the oil which would we call the oil change activity - a preventive maintenance task or corrective maintenance task?

Based only on my opinion
Oil change is preventative maintenance - oil is being replaced to prevent secondary damage by the malfunctioning oil/corrosive or abrasive contaminant
Fixing/replacing the seal that allowed the water ingress, hot spot that accelerated the oil degradation, using a different oil during the oil change that has better performance capabilities - corrective maintenance
