I always prefer to take visa photos in a studio. Yes, it costs a little more than online processing, but you don't have to worry about details: the photographer will tell you how to stand up correctly, how to hold your head, and the background will be the right color at once. If you do it at home, you can spend a lot of time trying to get the perfect shot, and then still redo it. So, in my opinion, a studio is the most reliable option.
