Hi, im having trouble selecting the lubricant for a CO2 reciprocating compressor forma fertilizer plant. Which cylinder oil to use? Wet CO2 produces a weak acid, which will dilute the lubricant, and will react with EP addtives forming deposits. ISO VG220?
Also how can i calculate the amount of dilution i can expect with the gas? Is it possible?

I'll confer with my chemist but he will need some info. What is the make and model of the compressor? What led you to the VG220?

gthe maker is NEA, what lead me to the VG220 is the dilution the carbonic acid will create. common to compressor makers not to recommend any lubricants with ZDDP or similar.

I'd check again with the OEM to see what ISO VG grade and oil type you should be using in the compressor. There are synthetic oils without the addition of additives such as ZDDP or EP that may be suitable. You will only know if the dilution of CO2 is going to affect the oil by doing the oil analysis and checking the viscosity.

You should also check out http://www.prolubeonline.com
regardless of application their products almost get rid of friction. But as ReneWA states, make sure that you get the right fit as if in warranty you could void it with the wrong product.
