Castrol Protec 15w-40

In Aus Castrol sells Protect to dealers in large quantites, is also sold thru auto shops as GTX3 in 5 Litre containers, what is the base oil type used in this product.
Quite a few people beleive this to be a good Turbo oil.
Also what base oil is used in Castrol Magnatec
10w-40.

As of a year ago, Protec was definitely Group I...though with some of the specs it meets, I assume that it might have some other basestocks as well.


Magnatec is Group III with some esters (that's the special attraction marketing), and some PAO. As I understand the formulation is somewhat akin to Castrol's US Syntec.

Isn't it marketed as a part-synthetic oil? Hillarious if that rumor is true as Castrol markets similar formulation products as Straight Synthetic in North America.
