Read our primer articles on High Mileage Oil, Synthetic Oil and Kinematic Viscosity

Hi all. I just came across this forum. Fascinating reading!

I just became the proud owner of a 2007 Nissan Maxima and I have every intention of keeping it in peak shape for as long as I can. I've always done my own oil changes without issue, but being new to Nissans, I wondered if anyone on here could answer a couple questions.

1. Does anyone know who manufactures the OEM oil filters for Nissan? I was planning to use those, but I am unsure whether they will perform as well as, say, a Mobil 1 or a PureOne. I definitely don't want to use something that is along the quality lines of a Fram.

2. My Maxima has about 15K miles on it. It was purchased "Certified Pre-Owned". I don't know what type of oil was used in it previously, but I was planning to begin using Mobil 1 Synthetic 5W-30. I live in Indiana and I think that should be a good year-round multi-grade to use. Does anyone have any opinions?

My thanks in advance for any replies.

Hello Shakedog, welcome!

Regarding your first question, this may vary per country or continent, but for US I'm sure some other users here can help you with that.

Regarding your question on the Maxima, looking at the owners manual (2006 version) (http://www.nissan-techinfo.com)
I can see that the recommended engine oil is API: SL 5W-30. So basically any A-brand 5W-30 oil would suffice here.
