Read our primer articles on Desiccant Breathers and Oil Filter Carts.

I am a service and commissioning engineer working on servohydraulic test machines and systems. We used to specify Tellus 37 oil in our equipment, it runs at 207 bar, 3 micron filtration and cooled to a bulk oil temp of 40 deg C. A customer now wants to change to Mobil DTE 24. While I have no problems with Mobil as a supplier, is the oil compatible? ie can it mix with Tellus in the same pump set? If the answer is no, how do you clean a system of all traces of old oil?

One thing we have found in the field and seeing various types of lube oils in different countries is people doing a compatibility test wrong. They use NEW oil of "Current Oil" and NEW oil brand X, and really they should use the USED oil and the NEW oil to see if they are compatible. We have seen USED oil being mixed with NEW oil that passed a compatibility test in a lab but formed varnish, filter plugging, and servo valve sticking after mixing the oils.

OILKLEEN recommends that you take a sample of the USED oil and then the NEW oil that your going to add and use those for the lab.

We have alot of data on this so if you would like to get into contact please email me at:
