Hi, the "best practice" has always been to NOT ever install dry bearings,no matter what......Now, to further clarify this ,I suppose that it could happen where you NEED to install dry and then grease. Always hand pack bearings when and where possible. If the bearing fails on start up, at least it was "hand packed".......When pre-loading a bearing/setting clearances,ungreased bearings would be easier set. Now after setting clearance,grease bearing......SKF has a great website that has a grease chart for their bearings and the rpms,viscosity,etc.... Brett
