Process for improving the base oil colour at low cost

Let me start off the argument by offering BCA technology made by my company, Isopur. Often, the haze and color you are seeing is caused by submicron particles. Our machines remove these particles and brighten the oil's appearance. This is also a technology that can be scaled up in size and performance. If the oil has been prefiltered and de-watered so that the only thing remaining is a color improvement, we can probably do it. The large quantity of carbon and additives that disperse the carbon makes it difficult to purify used car oil. The other problem is, it takes a lot of filtration and filters to clean car oil. This can be very expensive.

It is difficult for used oils to meet colour ( almost water light) of the hydro treated/cracked base stocks. Many lube companies have innovated, by masking darker oils by "dyeing."(Oil solube dyes).
