I would use dino gear lube and dexron in the tranny. My basis is this...the truck has lasted this long on those items, so why mess with a good thing?

If you feel that you need some extra protection, mix some of the synthetic version with the petroleum version of the brand that you choose and make your own blend. This way, you can control the ratio of the synthetic component directly, just in case...

I recommend against using after market additives in lubricants. Pick a good high quality lubricant to start with and you should not have to add anything. Countless hours and money goes into formulating a additive package for a lubricant. Adding a after treatment to it just throws the blend out the window.

As far as the original question, I would use a gear oil. Synthetic or dino, that's up to you and your wallet.
