Marvel Mystery Oil (MMO) or Seafoam?

I was able to purchase Seafoam up here in the land of the outstretch palm. I put some in the gasoline in my car, motorcycle (1986 Virago XV1000), Stihl backpack blower and my Stihl FS250 trimmer. Both Stihls are 2 cycles engines.

I've been having some starting issues lately with the Stihls. They are several years old, likely over 500 hours on each.

Basically trying to clean-up the fuels systems on each.

If you feel that Seafoam and MMO are pretty much the same results wise, I'll continue to use Seamfoam due to its availability.

Thank you.

I try not to do too many Italian Tune Ups myself Trajan. Tires on my Titan are too expensive! I do love to punch it though, but the gas gauge moves almost as fast as the Tach! Big Grin
Big Grin I don't lite the tires up anymore, as they ain't cheap. But going to the redline in 1st or 2nd works fine.

Your in Mensa? That is funny...Who are you really...inquiering minds want to know.

Inquiring minds like myself have already figured out why he may not know of Techron, or even MMO.........It's Canada...... as in .....not the U.S. Not sold there.......or not very widespread!!

Products like the Chevron with Techron additive and MMO are almost non-existent in the County of Haliburton,in the Province of Ontario Canada.......or even the rest of the country for that matter.

His only chance is if he can find a chevron gas station.... which I can't even find in NJ because the only top tier gas that's available in NJ is shell with nitrogen. Not sure what purpose nitrogen serves.

However......the who he is part......would be........you guessed it.......Canadian!!

Thank you all for your varied suggestions. I was in 2 parts stores in Belleville today. Neither store has ever heard of Techron. They checked a few parts sources and Internet.

I can get MMO in Toronto from TruValue Hardware, but am not planning on going to TO in the near future.

Here's one reason that MMO is difficult to locate up here. Up to 2,3, or 4 years ago depending on who you talk to, MMO was distributed in Canada by Turtle Wax. Up here all packaging, labeling must be bilingual, French and English. Turtle Wax in their wisdom decided that they weren't selling enough MMO to warrant the cost of relabeling.

I haven't had time to delve into the Techron issue.

My daughter and her family lives in New York State, so I can stock-up on my next visit if no other solution.

I plan on researching the several products suggested by you fellows. Perhaps one or more will be available up here.

In the meantime, I'll purchase a few cans of MMO when next in TO.

Thank you!

That is one good thing about AMSOIL products. Spend a minute on the phone, place your order and delivers to your doorstep in about 2 business days. All of AMSOIL's products are available in Canada.

I don't considered seafoam or MMO all that fantastic for clean up when used in gasoline. Seafoam per the MSDS is Isopropyl and pale oil. It does have its uses.

For instance when put into an aerosol it becomes deep creep and sprays at any angle. Once the alcohol evaps the lube left behind has been quite good on my sliding glass door. Its also very seal safe when spraying carbs or engine parts. I have used it to clean a PCV valve and down throttle bodies.

MMO is not a good cleaner in gas, they suggest a good FI cleaner first. Use MMO as a UCL and to keep a fuel system clean, there are much better products for actually cleaning a fuel system.

I know, Amsoil puts one out as well, but the first three you can get at any Walmart.

I don't see any of those products available in Walmart in Belleville, Canada.

Techron is NOT recommended for air cooled 2 stroke engines: http://www.dooilco.com/pdf/Additives/Techron.pdf .

But AMSOIL is available at the Toronto warehouse and any ship to address. Here is a list of 80 dealers and shops in Ontario that carry AMSOIL. I'm sure there are many more. http://syntheticoil.ca/links.html .

The AMSOIL Quick Shot was just released to the public on 4/1/10. It is a new formulation specific for small engines and power sports applications, such as 2 stroke air cooled engines. Be sure to check with the other manufacturers to make sure it is recommended for 2 strokes. Most are not. Info on the new Quick Shot can be found at http://www.amsoil.com/storefront/aqs.aspx?zo=1181889 .

Tim,
I am in process of getting my Amsoil Dealer account setup. I might get some Quick shot to try out. I did order some Redline Fuel System cleaner though. I have used most boutique oils and do prefer Amsoil. I have quite a few contacts already that want AMS. My budget is not much, but if I get the dealer slot, I am sure I will be able to get things a little cheaper for myself.

You ever tried R/L water wetter? I am going to drain and fill my cooling system soon and was wondering if it was worth the coin.

Dave, I have used Redline Water Wetter and its not really worth it, the stuff works best with plain water.

I am using the Redline SI Fuel System Cleaner and the stuff is awesome.
