Hi Tim, it's nice of you to reply with up-to-date info. I recently acquired a 1985 Yamaha Virago XV1000 with 33 000 kms, so have been doing a lot of reading on bikes and suitable lubricants. Frankly, I should have bought a lighter, more maneuverable first bike.
I read that Amsoil sheet on their cycle oil and was impressed enough to decide that that's what I'm going to use from now on along with Purolator's motorcycle oil filter.
Btw, I'm a newbie biker. I'm signed up for a course, and hopefully, before I kill myself. It's a jungle out there...
The bike was service at a nearby Yamaha dealer. I told them to change out all the fluids. The motor oil is one I've not heard of: EXP Synthetic Oil 10W40.

You are welcome. You are smart to take the motorcycle course. I've been riding since 1973, and took the MSF beginner course ten years ago to keep my wife company. They do an excellent job and take you through every step with a good combination of classroom and parking lot skills training using a small 250cc bike.
I took the intermediate course a few years later to get a speeding ticket removed from my drivers license. Another excellent course where you do the skills on your own motorcycle. You will also likely get a discount on your motorcycle insurance and might be able to get your motorcycle permit via this course.
If every motorcyclist took these courses, they would learn proper riding techniques. Most motorcyclist will have an accident their first year due to a lack of knowledge and skill. The MSF courses are said to reduce that accident rate and you learn in a few days what takes many riders a year or more to learn.

As for Harley oils, In my Noria 1 class, there was an eclectic mix of folks.
3 refineries, 1 sales eng for a 4 th company, and 2 HD Factory guys.
So, of course we talked about there oils.
Interesting part was that 2 refinery guys claimed to make it, the sales eng claimed someone else, and the HD guys claimed only 1 of the refiners.
Bottom line, we figured everyone was right. Low Bid rules that world.

I have always used HDEO in my motorcycles, from the tranny in 2 strokes to four strokes crankcases. I have used it on my FZR-750, FZR-1000, my now sold RC-45 and latest 2010 R1 with excellent results, I usually use Delo 400 or Delvac MX.
